MiseTings Announces Premium Subscription Service
BOSTON (AP) -- In response to greater server demands and flagging sales of MiseTings (TM) apparel, yesterday MiseTings (MT) administrator Mango Butternuts announced the launch of MiseTings Premium, a paid subscription service for new selections from MT's finest contributors in news, commentary, and card design.
For a few dollars a month, Premium registered users have exclusive access to cutting-edge news and articles by quality contributors such as Yawgatog, Basilisk, and Paz. In an effort to improve the quality of MiseTings as a whole, more user-friendly features will be added for all users, including reducing the 60-second limit to 1 minute, allowing larger and more complex avatars for a small fee, and allowing remotely hosted signature images. In addition, paid subscribers to Premium will also be allowed use of exclusive "premium" emoticons, including
and
, which will be removed from general use when MT Premium goes online.
In addition, the following threads/forums will be "Premium-only" after the launch: The entire Event Captions and Photochoppery forum, The Banned Users Thread, The Official Link/Discuss Thread, The GM/GN Thread, The Official Happy Birthday Thread, The Sealed Deckbuilding Skills Thread, and Loveline - The MT Edition. Plans are underway to inaugurate new Premium forums for Trading/Filesharing, Online Gaming, and the eagerly-awaited MiseTings Personals (TM) Service. The following users' posts will also be available only to Premium users: Sarnath, Dantes, Beastmouth, Arc, Taeme, Vesuvan, HerrKant, Suenteus Po, phodos, Jimmy, Spiderdrake, Darigaaz, Nephilim, BobtheJunkie, blood4blood84, razors_through_flesh, Cade, and badguy. Others will be added/reclassified once the program is well underway and Premium users have an opportunity to give feedback on the new services.
Members who registered on or before May 30, 2002 will be granted free access to the Premium service. In addition, raffles and contests for limited-time free Premium subscription will be announced periodically, to permit regular users a glimpse at the expanded features available to them through subscription. Moderators will now be exempt from Premium payments and will receive a stipend for maintaining order in the forums overall. "It's about time," said Bekel, a single mother who has been wielding the Hammer in her increasingly precious spare time while raising 11 kids and running a penguin farm in rural Iowa. "I look forward to a day when the first site most Magic players look at is MT Premium. It's gonna be that good."
"The quality of articles and choppery at 'Tings has suffered somewhat, while traffic at the site is increasing every day, so it's our job to restore the funny and offset the costs of increased bandwidth with better quality overall," MB asserted in a recent planning meeting with The Council, MT's board of directors. Part of the decline of MiseTings can be blamed on the recent split at MTGNews.com, and a steady influx of new members. "By stratifying the quality levels at MiseTings, we are creating demand for access to the funny, which will bring in needed funds to maintain the site at a new, higher standard of quality," MB announced proudly.
A portion of the proceeds from MT Premium will be donated to CHADD, Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit Disorder. Also underway are plans to upgrade the radar detector to screen out more stupid.
MiseTings Premium will be going online Friday, February 25.
