Source of R&D Mishaps Discovered

By: Nevyn - October 29, 2002

Renton, WA -- In the past few years, R&D has created many cards that people would consider to be mistakes, either by virtue of being obviously too powerful, totally out of flavor for an already overpowered color (hey, you know what blue could use? a global reset!), or for being so depressingly useless as to make players wonder how anyone could come up with such dreck. Their card designs have often been referred to as half-baked.

Ironically, it was discovered today by this reporter that this may be just the problem at R&D. Following a lead based on Mark Rosewater's monday column in which he discussed R&D head Bill Rose's love of 'Brownies', MiseTings has uncovered a massive drug problem at R&D.

A little in depth investigative work has revealed that these 'brownies' indeed have some very 'medicinal' ingredients, which have no doubt altered the decision making process of R&D's powerful overlord, and could explain such cards as Pale Moon and Tarnished Citadel.

It was also revealed in Rosewater's article that Rose even maintained a daily diet of these hallucinatory delicacies for almost six months. Time series analysis has linked this to the time-line on the set design for Prophecy. In addition, a disgruntled R&D source has leaked to this reporter a copy of the play-test card for Threaten, whose R&D codename was apparently 'Pass it OVER'.

The drug scandal does not stop at Bill Rose however. Rumors persist that Rosewater himself has developed a love of 'cigarettes' to match Rose's love of brownies, a habit he apparently picked up while running the Magic Invitational in South Africa.

On the development side, there is no firm evidence of drug use, however this reporter has heard from multiple sources that both personal mirrors and several 'dusty' rolled up magic cards have been routinely spotted in Randy Buehler's personal office space.

Expect more news of this story as it develops.
