Invitational Invitees Decide to 'Just Go Draft'

By: slanter - September 12, 2002

The annual Magic Invitational, this year to be hosted on Magic the Gathering Online, suffered a setback recently as the players unanimously decided to blow it off and go draft. Many blame the format limitations of the software and the addictiveness of online drafting, especially among Pros.

Several players involved were reached for comment. "Invitational? Been there, done that" said Dragonlord Brian Kibler. "But we get to play on the WotC computers. Mise. Let's see if we can draft with Legions. I'm sure the file is around here somewhere." Former best player ever Jon Finkel added "Gee, Online Extended. Let me think, ok, I'll play Psychatog." Perennial invitee Dave Price was quoted as saying, "What, they voted me in again? Gosh. Wait, do I still play Magic?"

Wizards has begun preparing a backup Invitational should the first set follow through with their indifference. Runners up Andy Stokinger and Peter Szigeti will participate in a new format, where trash talk actually affects gameplay.
